e-mail Accounts & Services

e-mail is rapidly becoming the "Preferred method of communication" for individuals, businesses and organisations alike. We have several examples of how some of our customers have implemented e-mail services and seen a real increase in effective communication. If you don't have e-mail now then you really need to start giving it serious consideration. If you already have e-mail, check out the services below, we think you'll find something that is of use to you.

e-mail (POP 3)Accounts
An e-mail account with us is basically a chunk of space on one of our servers where any mail sent to you, to the e-mail address we provide you with is stored. You retrieve your e-mail by connecting your computer to the internet and downloading the messages to which you can then reply or send them on to someone else.
Purchasing an e-mail account from us gives you a chunk of space suitable in size to your requirements and includes a free Dial-up Account to allow you to connect to the internet to access your mail.

e-mail Aliases & Forwarding
If you have a Domain Name registered with us, then you have many options for your e-mail. Initially, we set this up so that anything@yourdomainname.co.uk  will be sent to you, this can be to your e-mail account with us or if you already have an e-mail account with another provider, we can forward that mail on for you.
You can then start to personalise your e-mail by specifying aliases to us to implement for you. For instance, you may wish to have an e-mail address for whoever updates your web pages, we can set webmaster@yourdomainname.co.uk to be sent to wherever you wish (Again, either an e-mail account with us or elsewhere) There is no limit to the number of these we can configure for you.

e-mail Mailing Lists
We operate two Majordomo Mailing List servers and these can be configured to give you control of your own mailing lists. Basically, this allows you to subscribe and un-subscribe e-mail addresses to a list which you control. You can even have this configured so that people can join or leave your list either completely or after authorisation from yourself. Once the list is up and running, you can send one e-mail to your list e.g. mailinglist@fredbloggs.com and within a few seconds, the server will have sent that e-mail on to everyone on your list. There are many different ways to configure Majordomo to suit your needs.
Discussion Forum - We run a number of lists like these for Organisations who wish to allow discussions between a number of users. Each member of the list is allowed to "Post" to the list (Send a message) and everyone on the list receives a copy. These are excellent for maintaining discussions and allowing effective communication between groups of people.
Announcement List - This configuration allows only one (or more) authorised people to Post to the list. Anyone else attempting to post to the list gets a message saying that they cannot do so and the message is sent to the list maintainer (You) to either authorise it and send it to the list or to reject it. These are excellent for announcing new products, sending out new customer price lists, newsletters and so on.

Want to see how it works? You're welcome to join our mailing list for free. You will receive the odd e-mail maybe once or twice a month with security & maintenance updates and details of our products and services.
To join, just send an e-mail to majordomo@sturgessnet.co.uk with the following words (without quotes) in the main body of the e-mail.   "subscribe sis"
You will receive a confirmation e-mail by return.

Auto Responders
Auto responders do exactly what their name implies. Basically, we take an e-mail alias at your domain name and you provide us with a text file. We do a bit of internet magic and anyone that sends a blank e-mail to your Auto responder, gets an immediate response with an e-mail containing the text that you supplied us with. A VERY effective way of providing your customers with directions to your headquarters, latest newsletter, price lists and so on.

Try it with our sample auto responder, click here then just press the send button to send the e-mail and then wait for the response.
